Case Study - Greeting Card Company |
Client: Greeting card company that wanted to create an online e-commerce presence to target specific vertical markets.
Background:While our client felt their website did a good job of promoting its custom greeting cards to a general audience, they feared that certain vertical markets were not being served through the main site. They wanted a way for prospective clients to see information that pertained to them in an atmosphere that was relevant to their likes and needs. To accomplish this, the company decided to develop a separate standalone website specific to each vertical market. The company hoped people who visited these custom sites would see the company as one which was aligned to their needs. This company also did not have any means of transacting business on the web. They wanted e-commerce capabilities on this new vertical portal. Finally, the company wanted the ability to take the implemented solution and use it at as a template to create additional websites to sell to other vertical markets such as churches, schools, and florists.

Goal: | Solution: | Result: | Create a vertical portal that:
- Could operate as a stand alone website
- Was easy to update
- Was unique to the target audience
- Could be easily replicated
- Could handle complex item customizations and quantity discounts
| Since the client was already using Joomla! on their main site and was familiar with administrating it, we built the new vertical portal on Joomla!. PDG commerce was chosen for the e-commerce engine because of its robust product customization capabilities. The PDG Commerce engine easily handles multiple paper stocks, sizes, binding methods, and fold options while dynamically changing the price on the order screen. Customers are able to instantly see how different paper choices and binding methods effect the per piece price. In addition, the PDG Commerce engine is able to handle complex discount models based on corporate affiliation and quantity order volume. | The client is now able to target different vertical markets across the nation with unique messaging and pricing. Updating the online store with new products and price options is as easy as uploading a CSV file. Our Nimbletoad designers did an amazing job of skinning the two platforms. Customers who visit the site have no idea they are jumping between two separate technologies when they transition from the Joomla! driven front page to the PDG driven e-commerce pages to complete their order. When the company wants to target an additional market, they will simply modify the template graphics, upload the site to the server and upload the vertical specific content.
